Back says: Many say they are “Christians” but have not Christ in them. Jesus says, “Every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them (Matt. 7:17-20). The fruits of your life are evidence of whether or not you are truly a new creature in Christ. Jesus said, it is impossible for someone who is not a Christian to bear good fruit because hey are not a good tree. Rom. 3:23 says that ”all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God.” All mankind are condemned for breaking the commandments of God because no one can perfectly keep His Law. Just as a rotten piece of fruit cannot remove its own bruises, a man cannot remove his own sin. Jesus Christ is the only way anyone can be counted as righteous before the Father and be free from the power of sin & death. Jesus Christ swallowed up sin & death for the unrighteous on the cross to eternally liberate only those who will repent (turn away from sin) and trust in Him as their Savior. When a sinner is saved by this amazing, supernatural grace, he is changed to the core of his being, and given a love for God & His Law along with the desire and the ability to follow Him and keep His commandments. This is good fruit. Perhaps you once said a sinner’s prayer, responded to an altar call, or were even baptized. Do not deceive yourself into believing these things automatically make you into a “good tree.” You must continue to examine the fruits of your life! If you say you have fellowship with Christ and are walking in darkness (sin) the truth is not in you, but if you walk in the light as Christ is in the light, His blood will cleanse you from your sin. Many who say they are “Christians” have a form of godliness but lack the power of the Holy Spirit that is in true believers which produces: righteousness, godliness, faith, holiness, and affections for the kingdom of heaven. “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God” (Col 3:1). Are you a good tree--a new creature in Christ who has good fruit as evidence of your salvation? Or are you a bad tree that bears bad fruit and will be cast into eternal fire? The fruit of your conversion will be that of an utter dependency on the Lord matched with a love for Him that surrenders all your heart, mind, soul, and strength to his service. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 6:23) Repent and believe! www.fruitfulgospel.com
