Great gospel tract in light of the SCOTUS decision.

What is love? Is it simply strong feelings of attraction toward another person, or is it more than that? How do you know that you truly love someone, or that they love you? The Bible tells us that “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:7). Here’s another question: Can a perfect, righteous God--who is love--also hate? Yes, part of God’s goodness is that He also hates evil. God hates evil deeds (Hosea 9:15), divorce (Malachi 2:16), and thinking evil & lying (Zechariah 8:17). As sinners, our biggest problem is that God hates sin--He is good and we are not! His eyes are so pure that He cannot even look on wickedness (Habakkuk 1:13), and He commands that human beings, who are made in His image, hate evil & love good (Amos 5:15). But we are born hating God & loving sin (Psalm 51:5), so we often call that which is evil good, & that which is good evil (Isaiah 5:20). Jesus Christ says, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15), & He also commands that you “be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). To truly love God is to do what He has commanded you to do. But all have fallen short of His perfect standard of righteousness (Romans 3:23). Furthermore, when we refuse to glorify God & be thankful to Him, He turns us over to our own sinful desires Romans 1:18-32), making us depart even further from true love, which is loving what God says is good: righteousness & holiness. But in an amazing display of God’s love, Isaiah writes that it pleased God to bruise Jesus Christ, His only Son, as He suffered & died on the cross (Isaiah 53:10). How could it please a loving God to do this to His perfectly obedient Son? Because at the cross, Jesus bore the sins of all those who would repent (turn away from sin), and believe in Him as their Savior. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13). This is exactly what Jesus did so that His people might have everlasting life and be given hearts that truly love Him and desire to do what He says is good. So repent! Turn from your sins & love God. Questions? Come see us!  hopebaptistchurch.info   sovereignredeemerchurch.com
