How do you know something to be true? How do know anything to be true? Could this world we live in be an illusion, just some sort of "matrix" where machines are harvesting humans for an energy source, where our minds are put into a digital computerized world? How do you know this isn't the case? You can't know anything for certain if you're simply basing reality, truth, and knowledge on your reasoning alone. Appealing to your reasoning as the final arbiter or ultimate authority is absurd. This is what' s known as a viciously circular argument. Let me explain. If you say that the grass is green and you appeal to your reasoning by saying I know the grass is green because I can see that the grass is green, therefore the grass is green. The problem that arises (known as vicious circular reasoning) is this: How do you know your reasoning is valid? You can't, unless you start with God. The Bible says in Colossians 2:3-4 that in Jesus Christ "are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments." Jesus is the starting point. We can trust our reasoning because our reasoning faculties are given to us by the one, true God. It's the fool who denies this fact and wants to be the sole authority over his own life. Proverbs 1:7 tells us "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction." It is true that some have warped the reasoning capabilities by believing lies and plausible arguments from evolutionary thinkers, but this doesn't negate the truth that God commands those people to repent of their false thinking. We can know for certain the things that God has revealed because he is the ultimate authority, the starting point of truth. He has also given us his word, the Bible. Here's an interesting point about the Bible. The Bible doesn't try to prove the existence of God, it presupposes God. And this brings us back to the question of how can you trust your reasoning? You can trust your reasoning because you are presupposing God whether you realize it or not. Those who will not acknowledge the true God in their reasoning are simply fulfilling the words of the Apostle Paul who stated in Romans 1:18-22 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools."
